A press conference was held in Dubrovnik today for the international tour of the Italian ship Goletta Verde, organised by One Adriatic, a network of environmental organisations fighting for an oil-free Adriatic.

The Minister of Economy, Tomislav Panenić, has stated that the realisation of this project has been canceled. We are sure that after convincing arguments against the construction and the circumstances that occurred, the Government had no other choice but to stop 'Plomin C'.

Yesterday (April 24th) in Ljubljana Friends of the Earth Croatia became a member of Zero Waste Europe, network that brings together national associations most actively working on the implementation of environmental waste management systems and assists in the activities of more than 300 cities and municipalities that have adopted the Zero Waste Strategy.

After the Italian government banned any new oil and gas platforms at a distance of 12 miles of the coastline, islands and protected areas in the sea, Italian citizens will be deciding this Sunday, April 17 on a referendum whether to remove all existing platforms within the specified distance with the expiry of their concessions.

Coalition informally called "Zero Waste Croatia'' consisting of 44 environmental organizations gathered in Green Forum and 18 other NGOs and citizen initiatives sent today a common suggestion to create a new proposal of Waste Management Implementation Plan. Associations welcome the announcement of the new environment minister to abandon the harmful burning of trash and building of regional centers for mixed waste and require that the proposal of the Plan incorporate efficient measures of reducing, reusing, separation and recycling of waste. These measures are based on the concept of zero waste to protect the environment and avoid compromising health.
