Neary 40 civil society organisations from whole Crotia, including the Friends of the Earth International, Bankwatch i Justice and Environment have signed a letter to EBRD and Croatian Government with a demand to cancel the construction of HE Ombla.

Zagreb, May 28 – Croatian electricity company HEP and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have cancelled a EUR 123, 2 million loan contract for the controversial Ombla underground hydropower plant near Dubrovnik HEP announced yesterday. In this way, implementation of this harmful project is being stopped, considerind it was highly depending on EBRD loan.

Over 11,000 Dubrovnik citizens voted on Sunday, in a local referendum to save the cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO city of Dubrovnik. 84% voted against plans to build a golf resort on the Srdj plateau above the city. Yesterday Greenpeace, in cooperation with the NGOs Zelena akcija, Zelena Istra and Pineta, carried out an action against the construction of the Plomin C coal power plant. At the entrance to Plomin Bay, Greenpeace hung a large banner saying “Stop Plomin C” on its 50 metre ship Arctic Sunrise. In this way, Greenpeace announced its active involvement in the campaign against the implementation of this economically and environmentally harmful project.
