Sava Commission

On 27th of June 2005 International Sava River Basin Commission was established. Parties of the Commission are representatives of: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and Montenegro.

On 27th of June 2005 International Sava River Basin Commission was established. Parties of the Commission are representatives of: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and Montenegro.

First Chairman of the Commission is Mr. Kemal Karkin from B&H.

Main objective of the Commission is to regulate River Sava for navigation and economical usage and protection from negative impacts from waters (floods) and pollution.

The Parties shall cooperate in order to achieve the following goals:

a) Establishment of an international regime of navigation on the Sava River and its navigable tributaries,

b) Establishment of sustainable water management, and

c) Undertaking of measures to prevent or limit hazards, and reduce and eliminate adverse consequences, including those from floods, ice hazards, droughts and incidents involving substances hazardous to water.

Sava Commission was established for implementation of Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin , which was signed by all four countries on 3rd December 2002 in Kranjska Gora. The Headquarters of the Commission are chosen to be in Zagreb, Croatia.
