For years, FoE Croatia has been committed to reducing the production and consumption of disposable plastic items nationally and globally, through active work in the global Break Free From Plastic movement.

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest problems of today, which the EU has recognised by adopting policies that regulate the production and consumption of disposable plastic.

Some of the most significant results of the work on this topic:

  • improving national legislation - banning certain disposable plastic items (lightweight plastic bags, plastic straws, dishes and cutlery, ear sticks, etc.) as part of the Waste Management Act (2021);
  • improving local policies of individual cities and municipalities (Sali, Stari Grad, Prelog, Krk, etc.);
  • conducted numerous educational activities and campaigns to raise awareness of harmfulness of disposable plastics and available sustainable reusable solutions (July without plastics, We Choose Reuse, Together without plastics, etc.);
  • appointment and work in the National Commission for the Implementation of the Plastics Directive;
  • building a national platform of organisations to combat plastic pollution.

Campaigns:

  • "Without disposable plastic" (2009-present)
  • “We Choose Reuse” (2020-present)
