The Bicycle Repair Workshop, popularly called BicPop, is a free, volunteer and participatory bicycle service based on the "do it yourself" principle: repair your bike yourself with the help of our volunteers!
BicPop has been operating since 2009 within FoE Croatia, and in addition to promoting reuse and cycling, as an environmentally friendly form of transport, the goal is social solidarity through the creation of a space where people help each other. The value of this first volunteer cycling service in Croatia is also shown by the fact that in 2021 it received the "Pride of Croatia" award.
The bike repair workshop is open on Thursdays from 17:00 until 20:00. While the measures to combat the pandemic are in force, you should announce your arrival at 099 314 9694 or by e-mail at biciklopopravljaona@zelena-akcija.hr.
The purpose of the Bicycle Repair Workshop is to provide everyone interested with space, tools and tips that would allow them to repair their bike themselves.
In the Bicycle Repair Workshop, bicycle owners will be able to find some of the harder-to-find bicycle and other tools that individuals usually do not pay to buy. In addition, we provide consumables and chemicals such as patches, adhesives, oils and greases.
Also, everyone who comes has the support of volunteers who will help them solve problems that they do not know how to fix themselves.
The use of the Bicycle Repair Workshop is free for everyone, but users must buy all the parts that need to be replaced on their bike. We do not sell anything, but only provide space, the ability to use tools and the help of on-duty volunteers.
BicPop is a do-it-yourself bike service: users have the support of volunteers, but they have to take part in all the repairs themselves.
Unlike other bicycle services, you can't simply leave your bike in the Bicycle Repair Workshop and return when it's done. You can ask volunteers who are on duty for advice or help, and you are expected to have the good will and desire to get to know your own bike.
Using the Bicycle Repair Workshop is free for everyone! None of the available services are charged.
If you are very satisfied with the repair or the help you have received, you are free to donate: bicycle parts, tools, consumables or snacks for volunteers. No one, however, is obliged to give anything, regardless of the scope and duration of the repair made.
We do not sell bicycles and spare parts. You will have to get a replacement for worn or broken parts on your bike that you need to repair yourself. However, in BicPop you may be able to find a replacement for the part that needs to be replaced on the bike. These are parts that someone donated to us earlier or parts removed from old and unrepairable bicycles.
You cannot leave your bike for repair. The point of the Bike Repair Workshop is to learn something about repairing your bike yourself. As a rule, you do the repairs yourself, and you can always turn to volunteers for help, who, although experienced, do not necessarily know everything. We may not be able to repair some rare examples of very modern, expensive and exotic parts. In fact, our favorites are classic bikes that you bought at Hrelić or inherited from your parents. :)
The tool cannot be borrowed or taken out of the Bicycle Repair Workshop. The same goes for parts; you can only get what you immediately install on the bike.
BicPop, or its volunteers, cannot be held responsible for any damage that may occur to you or your bicycles due to the use of the services, tools and space of the Bicycle Repair Workshop. We can, however, guarantee that any assistance will be provided to you with the utmost care for you and your bikes.
One of the most important goals of this project is to prevent still usable bicycles, or their parts, from ending up in the trash. We want to collect as many old bicycles as possible in order to restore or use them for parts.
We therefore invite everyone who owns bicycles, and which will no longer be used (no matter how bad the condition is), to donate them to the Bicycle Repair Workshop.
Better bicycles are repaired and forwarded to those who cannot buy them themselves, most often in cooperation with humanitarian associations and initiatives, social welfare institutions, etc. In this way, we save resources and energy, but also reduce the financial burden that repairing or buying a new bike brings with it.
Every Thursday from 17:00 to 20:00.
As previously mentioned: donations of old bicycles, parts, literature, consumables, money, volunteering at the Bicycle Repair Workshop or donations to the giro account of FoE Croatia (the purpose: "for the Bicycle Repair Workshop").
If you feel willing and able to help others, come to the Bicycle Repair Workshop during its normal working hours and contact one of the volunteers. Initially, you will perform repairs under the discreet supervision of one of the senior volunteers, and later, when we are convinced of a certain level of knowledge and your good behavior, on your own.
You don't have to be a grandmaster to help us. Even if your knowledge is limited to the simplest repairs (such as patching a tire), you can be of great use. You will fix, of course, only things that you are sure you know how to fix and you will not accept tasks that are not clear to you. With the help of older volunteers, you will gradually expand your knowledge.
