Regional seminar „Energy and natural resources transformation in Western Balkans and Turkey“ held in Solar Academy on Solta island
From June 30th to July 4th, Zelena akcija, in cooperation with partners from the regional ETNAR project, organized a seminar called „Energy and natural resources transformation in Western Balkans and Turkey“. It was held at the Solar Academy on island of Solta, a regional training center for sustainable development and advocacy, beeing developed in the former army barracks.
The seminar brought together around 30 participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
Program of the seminar included lectures on UN negotiations on climate change, EU 2030 strategy on energy and climate, an update on Energy Community, a lecture on energy cooperatives and a workshop to determin main trends and threats to natural resources in the region. Also presentet were campaigns on energy and natural resources that the ETNAR project partners and sub-grantees are working on.
Participants of the seminar used this oportunity to talk about the recent catastrophic flooding that hit the region, determine what’s been done so far, and what can partners and sub-grantees do in the comming months.
During the seminar, half day workshop was held by a guest evaluator, with the aim to identyfy sugestions for improuvement of the EU assistance to the CEE civil society, so it can best fullfil its transformative role in the region.
Paralell to the seminar, an annual gathering of the SEENET network was held, on which it was decided to redefine the scope of the network to include natural resources. Adopting of a new strategy and expanding membership were also discussed.
The seminar was organized as part of the two-year project that began in December 2012: Advocacy NGOs networks for sustainable use of energy and natural resources in the Western Balkans and Turkey – ETNAR (PROJECT CODE: IPA-CSF-2012/306-573 , under the IPA Civil Society Call EuropeAid/132438/C/ACT/Multi), which is funded by the IPA Civil Society Program of the European Union and implemented by Green Action / FoE Croatia (Zagreb, Croatia), CEKOR (Subotica, Serbia ), Center for the Environment (Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina ), Center for Ecology and Energy (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina ), Green Home (Podgorica, Montenegro) and international partners of the Heinrich Boell Foundation (Berlin, Germany with offices in Zagreb and Sarajevo), Friends of the Earth International – FOEI (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Friends of the Earth Europe – FOEE (Brussels, Belgium).
