Green Action's activists have today made a protest action at the opening of Health City Conference. They have warned public and participants of the conference that Zagreb is not and it will not be healthy city while the main environmental problems are unsolved. Those problems were whiten on a banner the activists had;

Traffic congestion – each year Zagreb gets 20.000 new motorized vehicles. Instead of destimulating the car usage, city authorities are fostering mayor road infrastructure projects, and neglecting simple solutions like Park&Ride system, physical separation of yellow line and construction of bicycle infrastructure. Average speed of trams in Zagreb has reduced from 14 km/h to 10 km/h, pedestrian zone in the historical centre was not enlarged for the last 35 years, and number of cars is growing fast, so this is the main reason why Zagreb is not healthy city.

Reducing of green areas – each changing of General Urban Plan of Zagreb causes transformation of green areas into construction area, and new construction causes increase of traffic congestion. Despite several protest of the local citizens, it seems that this will happened in the new changes of General Urban Plan later this year.

Other environmental problems in Zagreb are reducing the size of Nature Park Medvednica, endangering the quality of drinking water and incinerating of waste.
