Jagoda Munić from Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia, was elected for a president of the world's largest network of environmental NGOs, yesterday in El Salvador at the annual meeting of Friends of the Earth International (FoEI), for a term of two years.
FoEI brings together 76 environmental organizations from 76 countries around the world, and it counts over 2 million members and supporters. Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia has been a member of the network for 12 years. Some of priority issues that FoEI deals with are climate change, biodiversity protection, land grab, food sovereignty, protection of forests and water ... In its actions, FoEI questions the existing economic models and promotes solutions that contribute to the establishment of an environmentally sustainable and socially just society.
Jagoda Munić is a member of Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia since 1997, and she was a president of Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia from 2001. - 2007. She has led several successful campaigns for environment protection, such as the campaign against GMOs, which ensured that Croatia gets one of the strictest laws on GMOs, and the campaign to abolish corruptive law on the Golf courses, which was the very basis for the ban of this law last year. Ever since Zelena akcija became part of FoEI, Jagoda Munić was exceptionally active member of the Network's activities and served as a member or deputy member of the Board of Directors for the last 8 years.
By electing Jagoda Munić for a president, FoEI has confirmed the value of her prior engagement, and gave her the confidence to successfully lead the network in the future period. Also, this gave recognition to Zelena akcija as one of the most active groups within FoEI.
