Web 7

The handbook "Art as a Medum for Environmental Awareness in Local Communities" was officially presented on 30 November 2024 in Vrginmost, in collaboration with the local association Suncokret Gvozd.

The event was attended by 15 participants interested in exploring how art can serve as a tool for fostering environmental awareness within local communities and how these communities can engage and connect through various advocacy methods.

Zelena Akcija / FoE Croatia conducted two interviews and selected five photographs as contributions to the development of this handbook, which was originally written in English and subsequently translated into six partner languages.

The handbook provides an overview of successful initiatives that combine art and environmental protection. It highlights examples from different countries that demonstrate how creativity can serve as a powerful tool to raise awareness, educate, and motivate communities to actively participate in environmental conservation. Additionally, it serves as a collection of successful case studies illustrating how communities and artistic approaches can positively influence the environment.

Through stories of organisations from various countries, the handbook emphasises the importance of:

  • Involving local communities in decision-making processes and project implementation.
  • Utilising art and innovative methods to raise awareness and promote sustainable solutions.
  • Establishing partnerships between non-governmental organisations, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Investing in the education of youth and the general public on the importance of environmental preservation.
