ENVIRONMETAL CAMPAIGNING IN SOUTH EAST EUROPE

The project aimed
to increase environmental protection and citizens participation
in environmental decision-making in South Eastern Europe.

We have aimed to achieve this overall objective through
the following goals:

• a) To strengthen the capacity of SEE environmental NGOs in their campaigning skills so they can increase public awareness and engagement in environmental issues through campaigns
• b) To educate and motivate young environmental leaders in the SEE region on campaigning and environmental issues
• c) To increase networking of SEE environmental NGOs with the FOEI network and with each other in the SEE Region

The reason behind this project was the fact that in spite of the many years spent on capacity building of NGOs in Croatia and SEE Europe, there was still a need to strengthen environmental activism. The region needed and still needs more NGOs that are rooted in civil society and engaged in environmental public advocacy. The NGOs should increase their support of the efforts of local communities to protect their environment and influence national and local environmental public policy making. There is a need to mobilize citizens to exercise and defend their right to a healthy and sustainable environment.
