Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia is urging citizens to sign an international petition asking the European Commission not to approve a new list of priority energy projects because it includes harmful projects such as the onshore LNG terminal on Krk Island.

Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia and Green Istria are suing the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development for issuing an environmental permit for the Plomin Coal Thermal Power Plant (TPP) 1.

On December 1st, the floating LNG terminal arrived on Krk Island in Croatia, thus marking the finalisation of the project of the Croatian Government. The terminal has been opposed by the entire local community, it will prolong Croatia's dependence on fossil gas and is extremely harmful to the climate.

The Youth Initiative "Fridays for Future - Zagreb" and Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia organised a joint action today in front of the Government building and sent a clear message that by building the Krk LNG terminal and continued purchasing of fossil gas politicians are selling the future of young generations.

The Plomin 1 coal plant, on Croatia’s Istrian coast, is already 50 years old. In 2017 it closed due to a fire. Yet, the Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy looks set to allow Plomin 1’s owner, HEP, to bring it back from the dead without even an environmental impact assessment.
