Towards communities of reuse practice (ENG)
At the end of 2022, Zelena akcija / FoE Croatia started coordinating the two-year project "Towards Communities of Reuse Practice (TORP)". Partners in this project are Vojvodina Volunteer Center (Serbia) and the Ecological Recycling Society (Greece).
The TORP project is designed to increase the capacity of partner organisations to better understand the importance of reuse practices in the broader context of the transition to a circular economy. Each of the partner organisations has some experience in working with the local community on the topic of reuse, and during the project, we exchange knowledge and skills in order to strengthen each other.
Organisations will be trained to implement new reuse practices in the community, gain a better understanding of how practical activities contribute to the transition to a circular economy, and how to communicate the public narrative about reuse effectively. Also, they will acquire the capacity to work with vulnerable groups and assemble educational materials for other organisations and citizens, raising public awareness of the importance of waste reuse and prevention.
Preventing the production of waste is crucial in addressing the multiple environmental impacts associated with the linear economy model and in the transition to a circular economy.
The goal of the project is to contribute to the revitalisation of the local community gathered around the culture of reuse and repairs, including volunteerism and active citizenship. This kind of empowerment of organisations can lead to the simultaneous improvement of social and environmental conditions. Community reuse activities contribute to increasing social cohesion by providing sustainability services and skills development for adults and marginalised groups.
In addition to raising the capacity of organisations, other project activities include the creation of methodologies for the establishment of reuse practices in the community, testing of practices by partner organisations, setting up a set of tools that will help us in additional motivation and inspiration, in order to spread such practices in general. We will also organise several public pilot events for the public with the aim of reflection, evaluation and learning from experience.
The project is financed from the ERASMUS plus program (Programme Erasmus+ Action Type KA220-ADU - Cooperation partnerships in adult education) under the leadership of AMPEU.
