Climate change

Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia has addressed the issue of climate change from the beginning; from advocacy campaigns against energy projects harmful to the climate and people, work on national and international climate policies to projects and educational activities focused on climate science.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of today and is almost entirely the result of human activity or human impact (consumption of fossil fuels) on the climate, especially the Earth's atmosphere, and therefore it’s increasingly related to global warming. Therefore, ways to reduce human impact on the climate and adapt to changes that are already occurring (e.g. extremely warm winters, forest fires, melting glaciers etc.) are being discussed.

The main goals on this topic are: harmonisation of climate and other public policies in the Republic of Croatia and the EU with the latest climate science and implementation of the same policies, educating the public about the climate crisis and building and strengthening the national climate movement.

Some of the most significant results of the work on this topic:

stopping large and harmful fossil fuel infrastructure projects (from the 1990s to the present);
active participation in more than ten UN climate conferences around the world;
participation in the initiative for the adoption of the Law on Protection against Light Pollution (2012);
education of citizens, local communities and decision-makers on climate change and the climate crisis (from the 1990s to the present)
