Local referendum to save Dubrovnik’s heritage

A local referendum will take place this weekend to save the cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO city of Dubrovnik – which is under threat from plans to build a golf resort on the Srdj plateau above the city. Friends of the Earth Croatia is calling on local citizens to reject the plan, which has links to alleged corruption and tax evasion, will come at the expense of local citizens, and will permanently damage Dubrovnik's international reputation.

Greenpeace ship in action against the thermopower plant "Plomin C"

Yesterday Greenpeace, in cooperation with the NGOs Zelena akcija, Zelena Istra and Pineta, carried out an action against the construction of the Plomin C coal power plant. At the entrance to Plomin Bay, Greenpeace hung a large banner saying “Stop Plomin C” on its 50 metre ship Arctic Sunrise. In this way, Greenpeace announced its active involvement in the campaign against the implementation of this economically and environmentally harmful project.

Croatian green groups mount legal challenge on "Plomin C" coal power plant

Zelena Akcija (Friends of the Earth Croatia) and Green Istria, with the support of several local residents, have today submitted a legal appeal against the environmental permit for the Plomin C coal power plant, which was issued on 20 September by the Croatian Ministry for the Protection of the Environment and Nature.

Public space for gardens and parks, not cars

Green Action activists, in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung, and with activists from the civil initiative Parkticipation, held a performance today at 11 a.m. in front of Zagreb City Hall. Today is International PARKing day which is celebrated in over 100 cities all over the world and on this day NGO’s and civil initiatives turn parking places into green surfaces; parks and gardens.

Friends of the Earth Europe support the struggle against the HE Ombla and Golf resort Srdj in Dubrovnik.

At a press conference in Dubrovnik organised by citizen’s initative Srđ je naš, Zelena akcije/ Friends of the Earth Croatia, Friends of the Earth Europe representatives expressed the concern for the cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO protected city of Dubrovnik. The city is threatened by planned construction of the golf resort at Srdj Platou and HE power-plant at the source of river Ombla.

Reject the Plomin C coal power plant

Green Action activists, in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung, held a protest performance today at 12 p.m. in front of the Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection, asking Minister Zmajlović to reject the EIA for the Plomin C coal plant.
