Green Action staged a street theatre performance to call on Zagreb County not to accept a recent proposal for a toxic waste dump to be built there. If signed the deal would require the County to construct a toxic waste dump in exchange for having its waste burnt in the planned Zagreb incinerator.

New hunting law proposal in Croatia

Otter survey on Lika river is part of the Green Belt Velebit Project - a joint Green Action and WWF initiative for the long-term conservation and rural development of the large karst landscape system comprising the river basins of Lika, Gacka and Krbava, the Velebit mountain range and the sea channel where the system’s underground streams re-emerge.

Campaign against GMOs in Croatia

In an Open letter to the Croatian Parliament Green action (GA) has asked for improvements of the law proposal. We stated that for Croatia it is not necessary to produce or grow GMOs. We asked for public participation in decision-making process, more transparency and better access to information.

What is PEEN?

One important element of the implementation of the Pan-European Biological and Landscapes Diversity Strategy is the establishment of the Pan-European Ecological Network. The participating states have agreed that the network should be established by 2005.

What is PEBLDS?

The Pan-European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy was endorsed at the third Pan-European Conferences of Ministers of the Environment "Environment for Europe" held in Sofia in October 1995, it concerns more than 50 countries of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The PEBLDS is a European response to support the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

What is CBD?

The Convention was opened for signature at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. It entered into force on 29 December 1993 and currently has 188 Parties.

In October 2005 the Environmental Impact Assessment for the incinerator was rejected, but soon afterwards an article appeared in the national media stating that Zagreb’s mayor, Milan Bandic, did not accept the decision and that he would seek assistance from the Prime Minister to realise the project.
