A press conference was held in Dubrovnik today for the international tour of the Italian ship Goletta Verde, organised by One Adriatic, a network of environmental organisations fighting for an oil-free Adriatic.

Zelena akcija/Friends of the Earth Croatia organised a regional event 'Balkan Youth Climate Movement' camp from July 25th until July 31st 2016 in the Solar Academy on the Island of Šolta, near Split, in Croatia. The purpose of the week-long camp for over 40 young people from Western Balkans and Turkey was to educate and build the capacity of young leaders in the region to be able to understand the results of COP21 and to advocate for climate justice.

We stopped the harmful coal project 'Plomin C'!

After five years of campaigning against the construction of the harmful coal power plant 'Plomin C', we achieved a big victory! The Minister of Economy, Tomislav Panenić, has stated that the realisation of this project has been canceled. We are sure that after convincing arguments against the construction and the circumstances that occurred, the Government had no other choice but to stop 'Plomin C'.

After the Italian government banned any new oil and gas platforms at a distance of 12 miles of the coastline, islands and protected areas in the sea, Italian citizens will be deciding this Sunday, April 17 on a referendum whether to remove all existing platforms within the specified distance with the expiry of their concessions.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Skopje, Pljevlja, Tuzla and other cities across the Western Balkans in December to demand action on chronic air pollution plaguing their communities. A new briefing paper shows that to a large degree these recurring smog incidents are the result of national authorities' protracted inaction. The Franciscan Secular Order and the S.O.S. Adriatic coalition held a joint press conference on June 19th 2015 in Zagreb where they presented the conclusions of the encyclical in which Pope Francis calls for urgent action to combat climate change, and sent a message to the Croatian Government to withdraw from the harmful project of exploration and exploitation of oil in the Adriatic Sea.

Coal is leading us into climate chaos!

Today Green Action (Friends of the Earth Croatia) activists performed a protest performance entitled „Climate Chaos“, in Zagreb. The performance was part of the world-wide Day of Action against coal, organized in over 50 countries. This performance illustrated future, but also current, impacts of climate change in Croatia, and the rest of the world.

Yesterday Greenpeace, in cooperation with the NGOs Zelena akcija, Zelena Istra and Pineta, carried out an action against the construction of the Plomin C coal power plant. At the entrance to Plomin Bay, Greenpeace hung a large banner saying “Stop Plomin C” on its 50 metre ship Arctic Sunrise. In this way, Greenpeace announced its active involvement in the campaign against the implementation of this economically and environmentally harmful project.
